National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month

June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable month.

So that’s a whole 30 days to pick up some new healthy habits, try out some delicious recipes and take good care of ourselves…What’s not to love!

National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable month aims to encourage people to eat more fresh produce which sounds good to us! At The London House of Wellbeing we are all about preventing illness through healthy living, so you can see why we’re excited for this month.

Did you know that broccoli contains more protein than steak? Or that apples give you more energy than coffee? Fruit and vegetables everyday really can keep the doctor away!

The 5 A Day Campaign

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends eating 400g (5 portions) of a variety of fruit and vegetables daily to lower the risk of heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer.

Other reasons to enjoy a wonderful rainbow of fresh fruit and vegetables diet include:

  • Fruit and vegetables contain important vitamins and minerals

  • They are an excellent source of dietary fibre

  • Fruit and vegetables contribute to a balanced diet

  • They are tasty

  • A natural source of sugar for a sweet tooth!

  • Low in fat and calories

  • A wide variety so there will be something delicious for everyone!

Are you eating enough fruit and vegetables?

Did you know that in 2021, 29% of children ate less than one portion of fruit and veg a day? And that 77% of adults are eating less than the recommended amount of vegetables?

Here at the London House of Wellbeing our qualified pharmacists and nutritionists are on hand to help!

What contributes to 5 A Day?

There are many ways to grab those 5 a day:

  • Frozen fruit and vegetables

  • Tinned or canned fruit and vegetables

  • Cooked in stews, soups or pasta

  • In ready meals, soups and puddings

  • Fruit juice
